2024:Patrick J. Dillon

Patrick J. Dillon is Chair of the De Novo Treatment Centre, a construction industry-funded drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. Patrick served as Business Manager and Secretary Treasurer of the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario from 1997 to 2021.

The Dillon family immigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1820, and settled in a small rural area, north of  Enterprise, Ontario.  Mr. Dillon came from a typical Irish family of eleven.  He began his career in the construction industry as an Apprentice Electrician in 1961 and became a Journeyperson in 1966. Following 18 years of experience in the construction industry, in 1984 he was elected Business Manager of Local 105 of  (IBEW) in Hamilton, Ontario.  In 1985, he was elected president of the Hamilton Building and Construction Trades Council, representing 15,000 local tradespeople. He served on a number of boards and commissions in Hamilton. He was President of the East Hamilton Optimist Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hamilton/Burlington United Way, a member of the Hamilton Wentworth District Health Council, a Commissioner on the Hamilton Harbour Commission, and was appointed to the Hamilton Wentworth Business Land Use Advisory Board.   In 1991, he was elected Executive Chairman of the IBEW Construction Council of Ontario.

Mr. Dillon served on a number of construction industry boards, including those of BuildForce Canada, the Ontario Construction Secretariat, the Canadian Nuclear Workers Council, the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada, Infrastructure Ontario, the Prevention Council, the 2015 Toronto-Greater Golden Horseshoe Pan Am Games Bid Committee, and the Appointments Council for the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT). Between 1996 and 2012, he served on the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Mr. Dillon is also a past member of the Federal Correctional Services Advisory Board (CORCAN).and the Workers’ Arts and Heritage Centre here in Hamilton Ontario. 

In July 2012, the Minister of Training Colleges and Universities presented Mr. Dillon with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, in recognition of “outstanding contributions to the Province of Ontario and the people of Canada.”
