It was a favourite recipe of Sean Byrne, 2006 Award Recipient
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ cup shortening
- 1 cup milk
Instructions:
(Yield 12-18 biscuits)
- Mix together flour, baking powder and salt
- Cut shortening into the dry mixture (use 2 knives or a pastry cutter) and mix until consistency of coarse cornmeal
- Make a well in the dough and add milk slowly
- Stir vigorously until the dough comes off the sides of the bowl
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured board and knead for 2-3 minutes
- Roll into a ½ thickness then cut into 2” biscuits
- Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake 450F for 12-15 minutes until golden
